Who would have ever thought that the most feared gangster of his time now spends his days as a modest househusband? Seemingly giving up the way of the yakuza, the legendary “Immortal Dragon” Tatsu, best known for his prolific skirmishes against rival gangs, has abruptly vanished. Unbeknownst to most, however, Tatsu is currently staying at an apartment with his wife, doing his best to live a peaceful life.

Donning his trusty apron, Tatsu is now striving to become an efficient homemaker. Because of this, he has mastered the required skills—be it cooking the most delicious dishes, making sure to get the best deals at supermarkets, and everything in between—garnering the surprise of both of his former subordinates and enemies alike. Despite being a man with quite a controversial past, Tatsu’s new way of life will only be more eccentric from here on out!

I’ve been seeing a lot of posts about this anime on facebook when it first aired last year, but it’s just now that I am finally able to watch it lol. Took me a year eh? Wahahaha.

It’s only ONA so each episodes were just very short that’s why I was able to finish it in just one sitting, *wink.

Opening & Closing Themes + Songs

I really love both the opening & closing themes. I remembered reading a post online that this series is going to be different from your normal anime, but that cool opening reminds me so much of my usual shonen anime. It was soooo cool and the art looks exactly like what I imagined a gangster anime would be. The song fits perfectly too!

The closing theme on the other hand got it a little bit low-key than the opening, but still pretty dramatic. It’s not my usual kind of music, but I really think the song really fits the closing theme so well.

The Ex-Gangster Househusband

The Way of the Househusband documents the life of an ex-gangster turned househusband. The episodes were short but each of them shows an exciting and usually amusing life of Tatsu together with his wife, which I’m sure will make you laugh.

As an ex-gangster, you will never have thought he’s going to be such an expert when it comes to house chores in comparison to his wife lol. Because of his gangster background, Tatsu can be really intense to the point that he looks hilarious lol.

Story wise, I really think The Way of the Househusband was a very entertaining watch.

Art & Animation

To be honest, I wasn’t a big fan of the animation style for this anime when I watched the first episode. Obviously because it’s not your typical fully animated one but the effects, voice actors and the sound make up for it. Plus, the art was really good. So in the end, I enjoyed the anime overall.

Voice Actors

I really love the Japanese dub, especially the voice actor for Tatsu (Tsuda, Kenjirou). You could say that I’m a new fan, *wink.

The English dub on the other hand is not bad at all. I think they pick the right voice actors especially for the main character.

***

If you are looking for a short entertaining watch, then The Way of the Househusband totally fits the bill. Have fun watching 🙂

I watched 極主夫道 as soon as it came out on Italian Netflix, although I’m pretty sure I watched it in English. I wasn’t completely impressed, to be honest, I suppose it’s because of the unusual format. The episodes were really really short and seemed broken off, so it was hard for me to fully enjoy this series.

I have to admit that I only watched it because it was about a an ex-Yakuza boss and, since I really liked the Yakuza video games, I loved the references about the organization.

However, I found it absolutely hilarious!!
