The murdered woman could have been her double. When reporter Meghan Collins sees the sheet-wrapped corpse in a New York City hospital, she feels as if she’s staring into her own face. And Meghan has troubles enough already without this bizarre experience. Nine months ago, her much-loved father’s car spun off a New York bridge. Now, investigators are saying that there’s no trace of his car in the river, and they suspect he faked his own death. With frightening speed, links start to appear between Meghan’s father and her dead lookalike. Meghan may be in danger herself, but she’s determined to find the truth to the mystery. In a nightmare journey spiraling from New York to Connecticut to Arizona, Meghan finds that the truth can sometimes be deadly.
Review
I never thought it would take me this long to finish this story, I was just too busy these past few days so I set this one aside for so long after reading 1/3rd of it, most during that time that I was stranded on the way back here in Cebu.
I guess the first few pages weren’t really that exciting because if it was, even with a busy schedule, I’m sure I could squeeze it in. That being said, instead of giving this one a perfect 5 star, I’m giving it 4 stars.
So after finishing this story, I just realized how this book had everything (remembering the first few pages, maybe not everything but almost everything) that I want for a suspense story. It has an unlimited supply of suspense and mystery that will really blow your mind and a little bit of romance that will be enough to give you that grin.
What I always like about MHC is that she combines suspense with more suspense making it so hard to spot the real culprit. Plus adding a dash of romance just made it for me,*wink.
For stories like this, I don’t usually talk more about the main character unless they did something crazy that really annoyed the heck out of me or if I really love them. In this case, well, I think it’s a neutral feeling, I wasn’t very impressed and I wasn’t annoyed at Meghan either. I’m just happy that after being rejected 9 years ago, the guy realizes her worth and made the effort to correct it. I’m just happy for her, plus this kid Kyle is such a sweetheart and I’m sure Meghan is going to be a perfect mom for him. So aside from successfully figuring out what really happened to her father, she finally got the guy she loved for so long. Sweet!
I don’t know about others but I really really really love this book. All scenes and twists were ingeniously weaved together making my reading experience really good. MHC sure used all her cards in this story plus the major-major suspense scene at the ending was crazy. And speaking of ending, I absolutely love it! It was actually a pretty sweet one considering all the crazy things the main character has to endure.
I didn’t get the chance to read a lot of suspense last year but reading this now, I’m motivated to read more this year. Ganbatte!
