An accident that should end in tragedy instead gives seventeen-year-old Jamie Baker a slew of uncontrollable superhuman abilities. To keep her secret safe Jamie socially exiles herself, earning the title of Rocklin High’s resident ice queen. But during a supercharged encounter with star quarterback Ryan Miller she literally kisses anonymity goodbye. Now the annoyingly irresistible Ryan will stop at nothing to melt the heart of the ice queen and find out what makes her so special. Unfortunately, Ryan is not the only person on to her secret. Will Jamie learn to contain her unstable powers before being discovered by the media or turned into a government lab rat? More importantly, can she throw Ryan Miller off her trail before falling in love with him?

Review

Ahem, so where do I start? Honestly, I want to start this review with a scream of delight. Kelly won me again this time which makes me feel bad because it’s been a while since I read a book from hers.

But I guess this line below is fitting to start my review with this story aight?

“Most superhero stories start with a meteor shower or a nasty insect bite, but mine actually starts with a kiss..”

Sounds like Snow White eh? But unlike Snow White’s, Jamie Baker’s story starts and ends with an electrifying kiss, haha.

But first, let us get to know the leads eh?

Jamie Baker, who after an accident involving a tanker truck full of toxic waste, an electric tower and a convertible, developed comic book-like super powers. She became electrically charged and enhanced her natural senses. The same accident also involved her boyfriend’s death, which made her feel guilty. After that accident, Jamie became distant to everyone; she’s practically a snob, an outcast, thus being branded as the “Ice Queen” on her new school.

And here comes,

Ryan Miller.

The gorgeous, and oh-so-hot Miller.

He’s also a quarterback and one of the most popular guys at school. He’s extremely confident, always has a positive outlook in life, and always loves to make other people happy. In short, my dream guy!

So now, let’s talk with that electrifying kiss eh?

It was actually started with a bet (sounds familiar eh? But hear me out first haha). The oh-so-hot Ryan and his best friend Mike was discussing who should date Becky to the homecoming dance. (For those who are curious, Becky has been Ryan’s girl best friend since second grade). And to make the story short, their discussion then led to a bet where Ryan should get a kiss from Jamie, who is known as the ice princes of their school. And Ryan in his oh-so-huge confidence accepted the challenge and received an electrifying kiss from the school’s ice princess. And that’s how it all started. You can read Ryan’s POV about that scene here. (careful, you’ll get burned hehe)

This book didn’t just impress me because of its unique and unexpected plot but also because it started so fast! I mean, the juicy part was revealed early. And that instantly perked me up.

Being Jamie Baker really entertained me. I love the plot (though I have to admit the supernatural thing is somewhat corny, but I love how Kelly made this story far from being one. Remember her Supernaturals series? haha), I love the characters (imagining Ryan pouting at me and I just literally died), and I really love how this story is well written (what can you expect with Kelly eh?).

I always love romance with an addition of humor, and this story didn’t betray me at all. I love how Kelly added supernaturals, romance, humor, and even about family in just one book. How was she able to add all of those considering its total number of pages eh? That’s definitely a Kelly Oram wonder.

During its first few chapters, we are only fed up with a little information on what happened to Jaime, and that made me more curious. I’ve been waiting patiently to read the part on how it all started, and the revelation really consumed me. I love the fact that Ryan is so patient and understanding of Jamie’s revelation and her attitude towards it. It might sound questionable to some eh? But what can we do? That’s definitely how true love can do to you; accept every flaw and love them more. (Urgh, I sounded too cheesy I know haha)

For its characters, I love how she added some flaws to its characters, including to my dream guy Ryan. Jamie’s situation was really cruel. Imagine being involved in an accident that was because of your boyfriend? But instead of dying, you were given a superpower, the same superpower that killed your boyfriend. I didn’t expect the super power thing so I was really taken aback; I was even on the verge of an incredulous laugh. But this story didn’t give me the chance at all. It is so properly well written and Ryan’s unbelievable confidence level plus pouting skills won me over.

And just like her other stories, this book is so easy to read because the words used are so easy to comprehend. The number of characters introduced in this story is just a handful so you can easily keep track of them.

And lastly, have any of you noticed the catchy cover of this book? Electrifying right? Actually, I always love Kelly Oram’s book cover, they all look perfect in my book shelves *_*

This story is highly recommended. I enjoyed it and I’m sure you will too. After you read this book, I’m sure you can’t get enough of my dream guy Ryan, so I prepared the following links for you to indulge, hehe.

And also, here’s a cute trailer of the book.

Will have to check it out, especially after you mentioned it was free and your review makes me curious. It can be nice when a book starts so fast, that can really pull you into a story when well done. Great review!
