In a world where magic is the key to power and wealth, Catalina Baylor is a Prime, the highest rank of magic user, and the Head of her House. Catalina has always been afraid to use her unique powers, but when her friend’s mother and sister are murdered, Catalina risks her reputation and safety to unravel the mystery.

But behind the scenes powerful forces are at work, and one of them is Alessandro Sagredo, the Italian Prime who was once Catalina’s teenage crush. Dangerous and unpredictable, Alessandro’s true motives are unclear, but he’s drawn to Catalina like a moth to a flame.

To help her friend, Catalina must test the limits of her extraordinary powers, but doing so may cost her both her House–and her heart.

Review

That was wow. Sapphire Flames as expected is another fun and exciting read. The adrenaline kept me at the edge of my seat and the chemistry between Catalina and Alessandro made me giggle like crazy. I loved it.

Catalina is now 21 years old and the head of her house. She’s grown on her power and now sports a more confident disposition after learning a lot from Arossa, Mad Rogan’s mom. Although she’s a lot stronger and confident now compared to before, she still has deep insecurities about her power and its effect on other people which makes her vulnerable for someone so strong. My heart really goes for her throughout this story and this is only the start, I can’t even imagine how it would be in the next books. Catalina is another likeable character so I really wish for her to be happy, however her burden is a heavy one so I am still not sure how it will go through in the next books.

As for our dear Alessandro. I loved this guy instantly. I love his interaction with Catalina, I just love the two of them together. What I felt about him is like how I felt about Mad Rogan all over again. I don’t know how Ilona Andrews can create such amazing characters it’s impossible to hate them. Alessandro comes from an old respected family and he’s well-known not just because of his family background but also by his good looks. Catalina thought she knew him, but it turns out that the guy has some things she doesn’t know about and he refused to share anything…yet. Ahhhh, I can’t wait to read more about it in the next book.

Sapphire Flames is a kickass start of Catalina’s trilogy and she really shines brilliantly in here that I can’t believe she’s the same shy girl as before. She did so well that you wouldn’t even miss Nevada or Mad Rogan. That’s just how kickass she is here. I can’t wait to see what more she could accomplish in the next installment.

Those who love urban fantasy world will definitely enjoy this series, *wink.

I agree. Catalina was much more sure of herself after the last book and I loved her and Alessandro together.
