Famous former NFL stars don’t date single working moms like Bailey Voss. She’ll allow herself to daydream about Kenny Scott’s muscles and killer smile, but wanting more would lead to post-holiday regret. Then Kenny volunteers to run a toy drive with Bailey, and she learns that he’s not just hot…he’s also generous, funny, nice. The whole package—tantalizingly out of reach.
The ache of past loss reminds Kenny why he needs to avoid getting too close to anyone. Especially to a gorgeous redhead and her adorable little girl. Mess it up, and he’d lose them both. Yet Kenny can only resist Bailey for so long. And as festive spirit spreads throughout the town, he’s all wrapped up in Bailey’s sweet, sexy kisses and determined to make this the first of many Christmases together…
Review
Yours for Christmas is just a very short read, but is enough to get you into the Holiday spirit. It is part of the Fool’s Gold series, but based on my experience, it can be read standalone.
This story started by introducing Bailey, who is a single mom to her daughter Chloe who just lost her dad one year ago. She sounds like a really nice person who works hard to provide for her daughter, and she sure is. She had it tough even before she got married but I really like how she keeps on fighting to achieve her goals.
Kenny on the other hand didn’t grow up having any problem financially, but he had his share of heartbreak. Just like most jocks, he also had some lines of women in his past, but I actually didn’t see that in him now. He’s now retired and currently working on his own business together with his friends. I don’t really have anything against him, I just didn’t like how he let his fears dictate his love life.
As for the side characters, there were a couple of them, but they are not really hard to keep track of eventhough you haven’t read the other books in the series yet.
Both of them had a thing for each other. Goodness, the sexual tension between these two can be a bit unbearable to read. Every time these two say something about each other in their minds, I just can’t help but shout “get on with it you two!”. Unfortunately, Kenny is not open to dating single moms because of his past experience. I know it really hurts a lot and I do feel him, however, I didn’t like how he clings to his fears until Bailey speaks up. But other than that, I think their romance was pretty sweet. Kenny made it clear from the beginning that the two of them will not go beyond friendship, but I really like that eventhough both of them had that talk, the transition of their relationship from friends to lovers was very smooth.
And that ending is very holiday appropriate. Ofcourse it can be read anytime of the year, but you’ll feel the love more during the Holiday season. Not one of my favorites, but it was a pretty decent read.
