Review
Warning: I will be dropping some spoilers below, so read on your own risk, *wink.
Love is an Illusion is my 2nd omegaverse story and I’m not really sure what to expect. I first heard about this story on a fujoshi group that I am part of on Facebook, and I really find the baby so cute. So yep, right there and then, I knew I needed to read it, wahahaha.
When I started this story, I instantly liked the illustration. There’s only small parts that were colored and the rest are the normal black and white like with a manga. I’ve been into yaoi full colored webtoons lately (in other words, I’m addicted lol), so it was quite a surprise that I still continued reading it.
I really find the first few chapters really interesting and I am curious about Dojin’s feelings towards Hyesung, so I guess that’s also one of the reasons why I kept reading.
To be honest, I was also really annoyed early on because the other main character (Hyesung) is so irritating. Like everything he does is so selfish that he doesn’t care if he hurts other people. But then again, their situation was just amusing. I had to finish all 99 long chapters in just 1 night.
For the main characters, I really hate Hyesung instantly. He’s very selfish and easily scammed. I also hate that he always runs away when things get rough. Dang, I can’t count how many times he hurt Dojin. But he is very funny and cute once in a while. The part where he finally able to really care for his son and admits that he loves Dojin too, that kinda changed my impression on him. He’s still very hard headed and cold sometimes, but it’s not as irritating as before.
Dojin on the other hand is just too good to be true. And since I’m into yaoi lately and a hopeless romantic at that, I liked him instantly. He may look a little cold, but he’s definitely the nicest and sweetest seme I’ve ever known. I just love how he unconditionally loves Hyesung, even though I feel that he doesn’t deserve him. But then, at the end, I had to accept that they’re really meant to be, because they really look cute together and Dojin loves him so much.
The addition of baby Byul in this story made this even more enjoyable for me. Ahhhh, that baby is just too cute. He doesn’t just look like his mom, but acts just like him too. This illustration here is one example, hahaha.
For the side characters, well, there were definitely some annoying ones here but you will end up liking or atleast look at them in the better side once you’ve read the extra chapters. And speaking of extra chapters, expect a story for side character’s romance here, *wink.
There were some clichés in this story, but I’ve got to give it to the author that she was able to turn those cliché into something really enjoyable to read.
There’s also a lot of conflicts here mostly because of Hyesung, some you will definitely hate. And the part where he finally goes back to Dojin and baby Byul after disappearing on them is unforgettable for me. I really hated Hyesung so much on that part because Dojin really suffered a lot, but that scene when Hyesung finally came back really left me crying. It was just so moving, I can’t help it eventhough I hated Hyeyung for hurting them, huhuhu.
Sorry for that spoiler, I just can’t finish this review without mentioning that one.
I know I’ve been saying that I hate Hyesung, but I have to be fair hahaha, he had a change of heart eventually, and after that his character became enjoyable to read. But sometimes if he gets cold or harsh to Dojin it still pisses me off. Well, we can’t really do anything about that, since he’s a tsundere.
There were also some character backstories, so we’ve got to understand why they were acting like that at the beginning and see it from their own point of view. After the second season, it was followed by a series of extra chapters from the main characters, and some new pairings which were so cute to read. The author said she will be doing a story for a grown up baby Byul, so I’m really excited to see that.
Despite the actions of the other main character, I’m sure most of you will still end up liking this story. I think this one’s currently on my top list for omegaverse yaoi story, *wink.
