Review

As you can guess, Chained is the third book of the NGS series by Ineryss that I’ve been addicted to lately, hahaha. Another fun news is that it’s the story of Ken, which as I’ve mentioned before, is one of the characters of this series that I am looking forward to reading.

Unfortunately, this story was far from the usual romance story that I expected. I already knew that this story is going to make me cry since I read it from a wattpad comment before, but heck, I didn’t expect it to be this painful. It was so painful that I still feel like crying everytime I think of this story, huhuhu.

Yes it was a painful story, but the first part of this book was quite light and had lots of swoon worthy scenes. It was so good that I couldn’t help falling in love even if the age of the FL at that time was kind of concerning. The ML is such a perv but is very good with words, lol.

Then came the conflict. It was so painful and I was really disappointed with the ML. Huhuhu. I started this story liking the ML so much, but once I finished it, my love for him was reduced. It was stupid, the ML was stupid. He was the adult in that relationship, so he should have done better. I know he’s an as*hole and a big flirt, but I still expected him to act better! It’s a spoiler, so read at your own risk. I was so disappointed when “it” happened. Like dude, she’s still a minor!!! A lot of complications and painful scenes happened after that. I thought that’s the end of it, but someone died, and the other person became depressed and suicidal. Uwaaahhhhh! It was so triggering, so please read with caution if you decided to give this one a try.

It was really painful to read. So each time I read those painful parts, I curse Hiro (ML’s cousin) and Franca (Irah’s cousin from book 2). Ofcourse both the FL and ML did something wrong too, but I was so angry at Hiro since he’s the one who started the mess and for Franca for lying. Sorry for the spoiler, but I don’t think I can proceed with this review without mentioning that. But then as I read further into the story, I came to the realization that it was indeed the ML’s fault. I feel like it was his karma for everything that he did. What’s more painful when I came to that realization was that it wasn’t just the ML who got burned by his karma but also the FL and the “little one”. Uwaaaahhhh!

After all of that, I really thought that it’s the end of their story. It felt like it would be better if they will not meet up again and get back together. Of all the pain and suffering, I just don’t think it’s worth it anymore. But then, as I read further and see the improvements and the realization, I feel like it’s natural that being with each other helps them get better and finally be freed from all the pain. It was ironic really. I was one of those people that already gave up, so it was a surprise that in the end I was still able to see that getting back together is still what’s best for them. That said, even though I was disappointed with the ML, I still can’t help but feel proud and happy that the two of them finally worked it out together and are now living the happy life they deserve.

As for the main characters, the FL was quite a character. I didn’t like how she’s so transparent about being an opportunist and gold digger. Well, considering how hard her life is and her problem with her parents, I kind of understand. Atleast she’s not plastic. And she also knows her self worth – if she can see that they don’t have something that can be of use to her, then she will not entertain them. She also doesn’t believe in love because of her parents, but eventually falls in love with the ML. She’s been avoiding it for quite a while, but you can’t really avoid the ML, lol. He’s a perv but he’s undeniably charming plus he’s very good with words. Once she accepted that she’s in love, you can see how her character grew. It was kind of proud seeing that. Unfortunately, conflict came and it really destroyed her. It was really hard reading what she went through. So I was really so happy when she finally got better and was able to let go of all the pain.

As for the ML, I really liked him at first. I love how playful he is, but his mouth is very vulgar. As I’ve said, he’s a big perv with just about anyone. It was actually fun reading his antics, it was also nice seeing how this perv and flirty guy finally fell in love. The FL was still a minor when their romance started, so it was quite a challenge to read it. It was a shame since it was really swoon worthy. When “it” happened, I was so disappointed. He didn’t think it through. I was even crying because it was such a waste, huhuhu. Another thing to add is that I was even more disappointed and disgusted when the two of them met again after the conflict. He was so disgusting at that time. But fortunately, he did a 180 turn and finally treated and loved FL right this time. It was also nice seeing his playful side again since he was so grumpy after the conflict.

Aside from the main characters, you will also can’t help but relate to some of the side characters as well, especially FL’s parents. It was really rewarding to see them change for the better this time. There’s not much exposure of the other Delafuente cousins here, especially in the middle of the story, but we’ve got a funny interaction almost at the end. I still had a bit of resentment for the Delafuente cousins though, but in all fairness, they make it up to FL. Speaking of Delafuente cousins, there’s a new female cousin that was introduced. She’s like Zera too, who is quite hostile and ill-tempered, so I can’t help but feel curious if she would also have her own book.

This story is just as well-written as the other books in the series that I have read. Although it was painful, it was still great to read a different kind of love story from the author. It’s great to see a different kind of love. A love that lasts despite all the hurt and resentment.

Lastly, this story is not for the faint hearted. There’s a lot of triggering and disturbing scenes, so if you think you can handle it, then go for it! It was painful but I think it was what makes this story really good. Have fun reading!

That male lead does sound frustrating. I’m glad you had lots of other parts to enjoy.
